X-Men #1 Vol. 2 (Oct. 1991) Costume design of Jim Lee’s became a derivative of Storm’s former black jumpsuit, of which she was known for prior to the new era of the 90s. Pieces of the black uniform, along with yellow accents were gained, including the X’s on her chest/shoulder pads, while a removal of the lightning bolt gave Storm her most associated look to date. Most non-comic readers at the time and present were first introduced to this look through 1992’s X-Men: Animated series. This costume appeared in a variety of other colors like silver, black and its well known, white. |
Uncanny X-Men Annual #9 (Nov. 1985) Deemed one of the few fan favorite looks, Storm donned the uniform in a brief arc that recalled the wind rider being gifted an Asgardian hammer. Having fallen under Loki's spell during one of her powerless arcs, Storm was granted the mystical hammer, which the Goddess of Thunder was born. Loki's trickery resulted in her battling the X-men, until Wolverine's courage helped Ororo to be released from the God of Mischief's control. Rather than retain the hammer and additional enhancements, Storm gave it up. This uniform has been revisited throughout her historical run, including an alternate timeline in Thors (2015), Secret Wars (2015) and a modern run of X-Men Gold vol 2. #33 (2017), along with a more updated look. |
Uncanny X-force #1 vol. 2 (Mar. 2013) This outfit had been adopted after joining Wolverine’s Uncanny X-Force, prior to joining the team, other versions of this uniform were worn by other members. The return of the iconic mohawk became a new turn in the 2010s, Opting to return to the fan favorite mohawk look as a reflection of the recent troubles in her life. Leading a run throughout the years until the closing of the ‘10s. This uniform was more of a practical run, covering the majority of her body while allowing the ability to perform takedowns of any villain that come her way. |
X-Men: Red Vol 1. #4 (May 2018) With another sleek number in the bag, this practical and tactical uniform was an introduction of a departure off the Gold title. With the former uniform an ode to an earlier 2000’s leotard and cape combination, this one fitted uniform included a cape and lined gold, with the X at the midsection, along with Storm’s crown accommodating hiding options much like her original uniform’s headpiece. This uniform debuted at the joining of Jean’s leading X-men team in the Red title, which would continue on through the House of X/Powers of X, Dawn of X eras. |
Hellfire Gala (June 2021) At the crescendo of Dawn of X, and the reign of a newer era introduces an event that involved the regalities of all mutants during the Hellfire Gala. Debuting in a bodysuit and thigh boot combo, there are remnants of former looks elevated to fit the status of Storm’s tenure as a woman who has worn many hats, including the newly crowned Regent of Sol. Storm’s hair isn’t unlike what was previous styled, allowing the natural pattern to play into the elements she controls, including a cape created by a storming cloud. She would go on to wear this costume until the closing of the Dawn of X arc, leading into 2022’s Destiny of X. |
Destiny of X (2022) According to artist Russell Dauterman, who designed the costume for a new story-based look for the upcoming Destiny of X set of stories, the streetwear leaning piece was a nod and modern take on Storm’s iconic punk era. For which her natural hair texture becomes prominent in a mohawk like fashion. Updating things for the unknowns and direction both Storm and the mutants are going into. Black, gold accents, lightning bolt and the standard X symbol in red, are mainstays in its various placement, along with a jacket in addition to the look! |
